Thermography: Early Breast Cancer Detection

 In Health Problems, Wellness Tips

So I bet you’re wondering what all of this breast thermography stuff that you’ve been seeing around the office is about.  Breast thermography is an alternative form of early breast cancer detection.

Why do I recommend its use over a mammogram?  It detects changes within the breast without the use of harmful radiation exposure. It is non-invasive, there is no pain involved, and there are no associated health risks. It uses infrared imaging which may detect abnormalities that your normal shower palpation routines or mammograms may not detect. It does so by detecting new blood vessel formation. Blood vessels pop up to sustain the environment necessary for a tumor.

The best part about thermography is that it is okay for use by anyone! Whether you are pregnant, nursing, have large breasts, have had breast cancer in the past, male or female. “

A positive infrared image represents the highest known risk factor for the existence of or future development of breast cancer – 10 times more significant than any family history of the disease.” It also has 90% sensitivity for all age groups. This is, in my opinion, the best test to give increased suspicion for breast cancer. Cancer confirmation can only be done via biopsy of the region after the results of thermography.
